A video clip of AIADMK leader V K Sasikala and her relative Elavarasi walking into Parappana Agrahara Central jail after shopping has gone viral. The buzz is that the video, which raises concerns over security system at the Central jail, was submitted by DIG Roopa to the ACB officials on August 2. The 25-second clip from CCTV camera hints at the compromise in enforcing jail rules by officials which enabled Sasikala to go for shopping. On July 12, former DIG of prisons, D Roopa had sent a report that exposed Sasikala and stamp scam kingpin Telagi enjoying special facilities inside the jail. Following the submission of the report over irregularities inside the prison, she was transferred as Commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety, Bengaluru. A high-level probe was ordered.
The viral CCTV footage shows Sasikala and Elavarasi entering jail in plainclothes and a woman officer from the prison escorting the duo.Roopa was summoned by the ACB on July 31. On August 2, she appeared before investigation officials and alleged that Sasikala and Ilavarasi had walked out of the jail without parole. However, she did not mention the particular date when they had gone out and the woman jailer’s name who helped Sasikala.
Sources said that Roopa on Monday confirmed about the CCTV footage given to ACB. She is also believed to have given crucial evidences over irregularities inside the jail to former IAS officer Vinay kumar, who probed into the case after the government ordered an enquiry. On Saturday too, Roopa appeared before the Vinay Kumar committee and submitted 72 documents and visual evidences to substantiate her charges. She submitted the same set of documents and evidences before the ACB as well.
The letter said that Sasikala and Elavarasi had used the official car of the jail authorities to go out of the prison after dark. Sasikala would wear salwar and kameez instead of a white saree.Further, Sasikala has allegedly been using several rooms in the prison complex as a yoga room, TV room, a special kitchen and also a living room with air conditioner.
Manickan had alleged that when Roopa tried to point out these discrepancies, Sathyanarayana Rao sought to misguide the media saying that Roopa was unaware of the Prison Rules and how the department functions.

Manickam requested the Chief Minister to initiate criminal cases against Sasikala, Sathyanarayana Rao, former DGP (prisons), Krishna Kumar, former Chief Jail Superintendent and Anitha, the then deputy Jail Superintendent. He requested the CM to transfer D Roopa, currently the DIG and Commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety to DIG, Prisons to initiate reformation of the jail administration.
DIG Roopa has handed over fresh evidence to the ACB as a part of statement in which Sasikala is seen entering the jail in civilian clothes. How can a prisoner go out of the jail? Forget of going out, how can she wear civilian dress? Now this spreads light of special perks given to the rich prisoners in Bangalore.
In the CCTV footage, it is clearly seen how Sasikala and Ilavarasi, each carrying a bag, entering the prison from the main gate in the presence of male guards.
Officer Roopa said that “Male guards are not allowed inside the women’s prison complex. Their deployment is outside the women’s prison premises at the main gate… it has to be investigated where she (Sasikala) is coming from and who permitted it”.
