HENB | Mewat :: Three Muslim teachers accused of forcing two Hindu students of a government-run residential school in Mewat to offer namaz have been taken under cognizance. Two teachers — an Urdu teacher and a political science teacher — were suspended and the social science teacher transferred.

A three-member panel, led by the district education officer, has also been constituted by deputy commissioner Mani Ram Sharma to investigate the charges against the three teachers of Mewat Model School in Madhi village of Haryana district. The school has 207 students and is one among several run by the Mewat Development Agency (MDA) for local residents. Out of 207  enrolled students in the school, only three are Hindus.

Action was taken against the three teachers — a computer science teacher, an Urdu teacher, and a social science teacher who’s also the hostel warden — after parents of the Hindu students complained to Sharma on July 22. While one of the Hindu boys is a student of class VIII, the other studies in class IX. They are cousins.

“Other students in the school have said the three teachers would ask the two Hindu students to abide by Islamic norms as per Quran and offer namaz. The teachers also often asked the two Hindu students to convert to Islam,” teacher in-charge Naveen Shakti said.

After action taken against the Muslim teachers, the local Muslims are trying the disturb and interrupt the school activities as sources said.

“The area is Muslim dominated. On Saturday, some Muslim villagers barged into the school and blamed us for the suspension of the teachers. They hinted that we should have hushed up the matter,” one of the teachers said. The teacher-in-charge of the school, Navin Shakti, admitted that some villagers had barged in but said that the police, which was present at the spot, brought the situation under control.

The teacher-in-charge said the complaint she received on July 22 alleged that Muslim students of the school were forcing some students to “follow Islamic norms and even convert to Islam”. “I only received complaints against students. The action against teachers was taken by higher officials based on some complaint they received. I am not aware as to why the teachers were shunted,” Shakti said.

Shamim Ahmed, project officer of the Mewat Development Agency (under which the school is run), said the matter came to light on July 22 when two students, Kaushal Vashist and Sagar Bhardwaj, asked for a School Leaving certificate. Ahmed is one of the members of the committee that will look into the incident.

The parents of Vashist and Bhardwaj pulled them out of the school hostel after getting to know about the incident of forceful imposition of Islam on their children.

Ahmed said that the parents then applied for transfer certificates to the Mewat DC and in their complaint, they named the three teachers involved in the incident.

After, the Muslim protest on Saturday for the suspension and transfer of three Quran follower  teachers, more police force has been posted in the locality to avert any Jihadi advancement in the area  and particularly in the school in question.
