Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has landed in a legal soup after a Bhopal man complained of developing rashes upon using a shaving cream endorsed by the actor.

As per a report in PTI Bhasha, a Bhopal Consumer court has registered a case against Khan after a man named Rajkumar Pandey filed a complaint claiming that Shah Rukh is misleading consumers with an ad where he calls the product ‘India’s number one’ shaving cream.

Rajkumar has revealed in his complaint that he developed rashes on his face after using the shaving cream and had to rush to a government hospital for treatment.

Notices have been sent to Shah Rukh, the owner of the shaving cream company, a local shopkeeper and the director of Madhya Pradesh Food and Drugs Department.

Pandey also told PTI Bhasha that he had the shaving cream tested by the Madhya Pradesh Food and Drugs Department, adding that “the report says the cream is of low, bad quality.”

Earlier, advertising watchdog Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) had released specific guidelines for celebrities endorsing consumer products.

“Celebrities should do due diligence to ensure that all description, claims and comparisons made in the advertisements they appear in or endorse are capable of being objectively ascertained and capable of substantiation and should not mislead or appear deceptive,” the ad regulatory body said.

Recent recommendations made to the Consumers Protection Bill also include jail for five years and a fine of Rs. 50 lakh for celebs who feature in misleading ads.
